About Us
Brief History of our Credit Union
In the 1950's, specifically during the first months of 1955, the Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito de Rincón began to take form. Its first organizational meeting was celebrated on February 25, 1955, and it was led by Mr. Jaime Caro Ramos, a Credit Unions Agent from the District of Aguadilla. A provisional Board of Directors was named consisting of the following people:
- President
- Mr. Isidro Ramos Noriega
- Vicepresident
- Mrs. Luz Echevarría de Moreno
- Secretary
- Mrs. Crisol Nazario de Carrero
- Treasurer
- Mrs. Gloria Brignoni de Ruiz
- Vocal
- Mr. Isabel Caro Arroyo
- Vocal
- Mrs. Isabel R. García
- Vocal
- Mr. Julio Velázquez Luciano
These people were responsible for obtaining our first commercial space on the second floor of Farmacia Nueva, at the corner of Comercio and Unión Streets. In March 18, 1955 our credit union had twenty six (26) members and a capital that ascended to $80.50. The first Members' Assembly was celebrated there, on May 30, 1955.
On August 19, 1955 we already had ninety nine (99) members and the capital ascended to $784.75. In our fourth Members' Assembly, celebrated on November 1956, the loan norms were implemented, and that same month the COOPERATIVA DE AHORRO Y CRÉDITO DE RINCÓN was officially incorporated.
Currently we are in a solid economic situation, ranked in second place in “actives” among all the Credit Unions in Puerto Rico, according to the Corporation for Credit Union Supervision and Insurance (COSSEC, for its initials in Spanish).
We have over seventeen thousand (17,000) members and over six thousand (6,000) non-members. Thanks to the loyal and excellent sponsorship received from everyone, along with a dedicated team of voluntary work and an efficient professional team, we have achieved the goals and purpose that launched our Credit Union's organization over half a century ago.
It's only fair to recognize the work carried out by each President during the years of this Credit Union's existence:
